Take that kitchen.

dsc02815

BEFORE

Well, Jake and I finally got around to blasting the kitchen with some paint this past weekend.  We used recycled colors from jobs with left over paint to cut down on costs, and with the two of us on the walls the whole transformation only took us about 3 hours.  SKILLS.

When we moved in the upper and lower part of the kitchen were already painted a real artificially cheery blue.  It was trying to hard and it made us mad every time we went in there.  Since the place is going to be for sale sometime in the next year, I didn’t want to invest too much money into the room, so we went for some color on our furnishings instead.  We painted the table and the shelf, Benjamin Moore Pink Corsage 1349, and the lower half of the walls BM Bennington Gray, with the upper half a clean white.

Small space…trust me if we had our way the place would be wildy decked, but sometimes you just gotta work with what you got.  We found that just by changing the colors and adding some spice to the kitchen we were both instantly filled with relief and a sense of belonging at our home.  Not a bad feeling to have at home if I do say so myself.

Here is our after photos… the light is far superior in the before photo…but you get the idea.  If not come over for tea and see the real thing up close and personal!  xo LULU

Pear Apple Crumble… yummy!

Made some delish Pear Apple Crumble last week.  It was supposed to be be Pear Crumble but we didn’t have enough pears so apples made there way into the flavor party.  Oopsy.  a pleasant surprise  it was indeed!

I wanted to bake something for Jakeums because it was the first time in what seems like a lifetime that I had some time off.  I love cooking…but never have the time.  This recipe was a cinch, and my “freestyle cooking” was a great addition to a yummy recipe.

Topping
1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup oat flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (We love Penzy’s spices over on Hennepin!!!)
2 tablespoons canola oil

Filling
3  ripe but firm  pears, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1/4 cup water
tablespoon fresh grated ginger
1 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 Fuji apples, sliced into 1/4-inch pieces

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2.  Prepare topping ingredients  in a medium bowl and stir away…

3.  Combine filling ingredients in 10 x 13 inch pan and stir stir stir.  Add the crumble topping over pear and apple mixture.

4. Bake the crumble until  the topping is golden, 40 to 45 minutes.

5. Add some delicious vanilla ice cream of your choice and call it a day.

Simple, easy, and low on calories.  My mom sent me a wonderful magazine with this recipe in it… I just tweaked it a little.  Once I get home from sunfish lake I’ll include a link to the original…You may prefer that one. In the magazine it said it was around 240 calories.  probably not including ice cream though.  Indulge.

happy munching.  lulu

Babies Room Inspirations!

Ahhh, I do not have any baby fever myself, but who doesn’t love a cute little goo goo ga ga baby?  I’ve always enjoyed being in the presence of a little sweetheart, eyes a glow with the intake of life’s wonders, and wonderful heartfelt laughter.  Babies change people, lives, and the world.  Babies are beautiful creatures that inspire love on so many new levels in this world. I don’t want one, but I do so enjoy painting there tiny living quarters.  Thus, babies rooms are a place for innovation, creativity, and true love to shine.

I was inspired this morning by HGTV’s newsletter with 12 inspiring babies room, I’ve included my two favorite, and included one of my favorite babies rooms done by yours truly at LULU Painting to get your creative juices flowing.

Happy Babies!

This Preppy little girls Room is playful but holds a clean sharp design.   This can very easily be achieved with a nice supply of 3M tape, and a lot of patience!  I just love the shapes and play on traditional girls/boys colors in this room.  Muy excellente!

This little boys room is filled with the primary colors and I get giddy just looking at it.  Its filled with color, bursting out of every nook and cranny.  Again, some tape and patience and this lovely colorful burst of a room could be yours!

And lastly, here’s the one that we did.  It was a pottery barn inspired room, fit with the colors, blankets, and pillows to boot.  Little Liam surely had a sweet room to help him make room for his new little sister taking over the nursery.

This room took much longer than we had anticipated.  The paint we were using was duration and it took a long time to dry.  Then the original tape I had picked up left things looking really sloppy.  I had to re-tape just about every line with Froggy tape to clean things up a bit.  Anything with taping requires you take your time and make sure each and every piece of tape is properly tacked to the wall.  But, the finishes, are what always make it worth it!

Welcome Babies!  Welcome Spring!!!!

with love, LULU

Gold Leafing European Luxury, Step 1

dsc02770

Last week I spent some rushed time trying to fit in a custom made European Luxury bed for a local designer.  I was given fabric samples, and color samples, and some blank canvas pieces to work with.  She was very clear about describing her vision to me.  The bed is going to be very elaborate with a variety of beautiful fabrics enveloping it and a 7 ft wide and 9 ft tall custom made headboard.  I can’t wait to see everything once its tied together.  I’ll be sure to take some pictures of the final product.

I didn’t get a chance to go in with oil paint and put the final detailed touches on the bed, but will be going on site in a week or two to complete the project.  I’m currently working on the daughters custom bed which will be similar but a bit girly and dainty!  Its been a really fun project to work on.  I love antiquing and distressing things.

Here is what it sort of looks like after being painted and gold leafed!  You will have to use your imagination until I get pictures of the bed assembled.  A lot of the pieces were poly-styrene so I used a new primer over at Hirshfields to prime everything, including the wood pieces.  Soon pictures will come.  until then, I’ll be working on the other bed.

You get the idea… I’ll wow you later!  lol

Jakeums Birthday Cake

Sorry Ya’ll just had to share this.  I was trying to be all sneaky on Jake’s Birthday and have Rachel help in making him one of her master piece Creato-cakes.  I left quickly before Brunch and we busied ourselves for an hour decorating it.

For your viewing pleasure…

If a cake could sum up a man I think Rachel achieved it in this one, as she always does.  I played the roll of assistant cake gal  rolling out caramels and tootsie rolls while Rachel sugar sprayed on the Rhymesayers logo (Jake’s job), A bottle of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey (his favorite beverage), a flashlight (because my dorky boyfriend has a loop on his belt for one and is never caught leaving the house without one, White sunglasses (bought these for him at Old Gold in Burlington, he is always wearing them), an I Can Haz CHeezburger cat (responsible for many a laughs), Bacon (no explanation necessary) and of coarse CRIBBAGE (his favorite game.dsc02764

Happy Birthday again Jake Money honey!  It was a blast.  We had brunch at the local, Jake gave a speech, and all were merry! Here are some more gems from the day.
