Save Mermapillar!!!!

One of my most favored Minneapolis based companies Mermapillar could be nothing more than a memory if  a new bill is passed that basically requires all children’s clothing to be approved by a third party before it can be sold.  I understand this rational on children’s toys most certainly, and also can support having nothing short of the very best for our nations children BUT, when it comes to small business and even more importantly all ORGANIC, ECO-FRIENDLY small businesses I think there should be an exception.

Here is the email I got from Miss Alice co-owner and creator of Mermapillar, Peep: mermapillar.com. Please click the link below to help support small business that create cutesy organic clothing for children using only the best materials.

Ok, so the thing below is the cheesy email that they make for you. But this is actually threatening to crush all my merma-dreams!
There’s a bill that will most likely go into affect in Feb. saying that all children’s products including clothing will need to be tested by a 3rd party for safety. That sounds fine and good, but the testing can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars for each batch of clothing that I make. This will be completely unaffordable for thousands of small businesses around the country and is most like going to put anyone but a big corporation out of business!!
If you have a few extra seconds it would mean a lot to me if you would click on their link below and vote that they make a few alterations to the bill, so that I and many other people can keep doing what they love.
Thank you so much!
Alice

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s a movement of citizens inspired by the presidential campaign who are now submitting ideas for how they think the Obama Administration should change America.  It’s called “Ideas for Change in America.”

One idea is titled: Save Handmade Toys From the CPSIA. I thought you might be interested in getting involved and recommend you check it out.  You can read more and vote for the idea by clicking the following link:

http://www.change.org/ideas/view/save_handmade_toys_from_the_cpsia

The top 10 ideas are going to be presented to the Obama Administration on Inauguration Day and will be supported by a national lobbying campaign run by Change.org, MySpace, and more than a dozen leading nonprofits after the Inauguration.  So each idea has a real chance at becoming policy.

This is a really great thing to promote! It will be an unfortunate loss to everyone if these small niche markets are lost!

I’m fully supporting Mermapillar, there is no way they and other small businesses should be subjected to this.

    MERMAPILLAR NEVER DIES!
